What I Really Took Pictures Of

Image
White Rain just finished Every week in my other blog, Creative Journey, I publish photographs posted on my Facebook page for my studio as part of the 365 Days of photography challenge. Supposedly the photos I post there are the best and most artistic but they are by no means what I take pictures of every day. My first DSLR was purchased to photograph my art work so I could enter shows and exhibits and not have to hire a photographer. And so a large portion of its use is to take photos of my art work like the just finished White Rain. I also do process blogs on Creative Journey (BTW the link to that site is in the right hand column) so there were almost daily photographs taken of this painting from beginning to end. Those photos also help me critique my own work and correct little things on bigger canvases. Since I got that first DSLR ethernet blogging and Facebook came a force to be utilized for marketing of art and staying in touch with friends and family. So I also have a per...

Photography is a sport

Along the Rio Grande The aspens because of the drought have not been colorful this year like last. So in a last ditch effort to capture some gold in them thar hills my photography buddy and I set off for the river edges in the area. First was Embudo canyon along the Rio Grande and then on to the Rio Chama near Abiquiu.  We got lucky but not without getting out of the car and hiking remote paths to get unique perspectives. Big Horn Sheep My friend Jessica and I went looking for animals to photograph, and specifically yesterday we were looking for Big Horn Sheep. A few weeks ago, totally by accident, we stumbled on the Red River flock. I knew these gentle and magnificent animals had been reintroduced into Arizona and then New Mexico wilderness areas after having been almost totally killed off by diseases carried by domestic sheep. I did not know how well they were doing until I saw them in Red River, and then yesterday along the eastern and western edges of the Rio Grande River Gorge. In the two weeks since the accidental sighting along the Red River photographers have been quietly telling us where else they can be found. But as the picture above indicates you have to look closely. They camouflage quite nicely, and make you wonder how many I have seen but not noticed. Watching Us This small flock with two adult rams was along an escarpment defining the path of the Rio Grande Ri...
